1898 Antique Davis Dayton Model 22 Special Road Racer Bike

1898 Antique Davis Dayton Model 22 Special Road Racer Bike

01st May 1898 (No Comments)

This beautiful old 1898 olive green Dayton Model 22 Special Road Racer Fixed Gear Bicycle was manufactured by the Davis Sewing Machine Company out of Dayton Ohio. Dayton Bicycles were high quality, light weight, and considered a Premiere Bicycle of the era. This Special Road Racer was a reinforced version of their Special Track Racer and was suitable for street use. Davis Sewing Machine Company also produced the rare Harley Davidson Bicycle, but being a true bicycle enthusiast “The Dayton” has more credibility in my book. This Dayton is a well preserved gem with ornate detail and beauty that can be truly enjoyed by a novice or an expert.

¬†This Dayton is a Beautiful Survivor: the original paint is Lux Low patina preserved and the bike is totally rebuilt. The Bike has Unique Light weight Lugging and tubing. The Frame is the 22″ version of the Model 22. Cool light weight early parts: Headset, Bottom Bracket, Crank, Large Racing Sprocket, Seat Post, Stem, and Handle bars. The Bike has an Amazing set of rattrap pedals, Early Lefever Arms Block Chain, and early leather saddle. The Bike had newer wheels when found that were switched out over the years. I was able to find original early Dayton wheels and patina restored them. The original wood rims were straightened, repaired, and refinished then laced with original spokes to at Dayton front hub and rear fixed gear track hub. The Dayton wood wheels look great and roll smooth but with the repair and tubular tires I am afraid they are not real road worthy. The Wood Wheels and Original Patina is Beautiful and although completely rebuilt, I would say she is more of a show piece than 100 year old Rider. The Dayton is unique high quality bicycle that can truly be appreciated by any Mechanic, Bike Geek, and or Collector.

This Amazing Bicycle is Rebuilt, Cleaned, and Sealed.  This Bicycle would be Perfect for a Collection, Conversation or Decoration. Click here for Details of the Lux Low Vintage Patina Restoration Process on this Bike.
