Excelsior Mfg. Co. Michigan City Motorbike Ballooner Bicycle

Excelsior Mfg. Co. Michigan City Motorbike Ballooner Bicycle

25th January 1935 (No Comments)

Vintage 1930s Excelsior Motorbike Bicycle made by Excelsior Manufacturing Company Michigan City. This Excelsior is a H P Snyder made frame and I believe it’s from 1934 to 1938. This Early Ballooner Motorbike is a Crossover 28″ wheel Motor bike frame with a true 26″ ballooner truss fork. This Crossover Motor bike was built to make use of older stock and manufacturing setup and was common to some company’s first endeavors in to the balloon tire bike market ( 1934 – 1936 ). Excelsior Cycles went through a few different ownerships and manufactures, In 1911 Schwinn bought and started producing Excelsior Bicycles and Motorcycles until 1931. Then H P Snyder / DP Harris / Rollfast acquired Excelsior in the 1930s. This Motor Bike is a fine example of a early ballooner bike with motorcycle styling. This Bike is restored as found with a few improvements to Cruise Comfortably and in Style.¬†

¬†This Excelsior is Full size men’s bike, restored an a Stylish Prewar Junker with Riding in Mind. Early Crossover Ballooner frame and fork painted Deep Gloss Black. The wheels are early restored 26″x 2.125″ step side ballooner rims powder coated and laced with Mussleman hubs. The tires are new repro Prewar Red Good Year Pattern Quality Rubber. The Original Struts, Stem, Crank, and Sprocket are Beautifully Re chromed. The Head Set and Torrington Bottom Bracket are an Unique Silver that I have not seen before (Looks Aluminum). The Handle bars, Grips , Pedals, Drop Stand, and Seat post are Nice Reproductions. The seat is a wonderful Vintage Wrights Leather Saddle. I restored the bike as found, but would suspect originally it would of had stainless stepped gutter fenders, a Deep bucket saddle, and crossbraced handle bars. I also found conflicting Excelsior H P Snyder ownership dates which leads me to believe although the Frame is H P Snyder, H P Snyder Could of sold Excelsior MFG. Co. Michigan City frames for assembly of their bikes before H P Snyder actually bought Excelsior. This Excelsior Bicycle is Restored to Produce a Stylish Sexy Rider with History and Street Appeal to Ride Daily.
