Antique 1919 Simmons Hardware Autocycle Wood Wheel Bicycle

Antique 1919 Simmons Hardware Autocycle Wood Wheel Bicycle

17th January 1919 (No Comments)

This Vintage 1919 Autocycle Motorbike was the Top of the Line Bike offered from the E. C. Simmons Hardware Stores. Simmons Hardware was founded by Edward Campbell Simmons in the 1870s in St. Louis, Missouri and grew to a highly successful nationwide hardware chain. Simmons hardware flourished up until 1922 when it was acquired by Winchester Repeating Arms Still Badged Simmons and then acquired by Shapleigh Hardware Company in 1940 Most Likely no longer Simmons but Badged Shapleigh. Simmons Hardware offered few different Bike models and parts to go with them. Some Later Simmons Bicycles were made by Colson Corporation, but this early one remains a mystery, to the best of my knowledge it is made by Michigan City Excelsior. Simmons was a well trusted hardware store and sold a lot of bikes that are unique with quality construction. You can tell a bike is Simmons bicycle with there unique small pencil size fender bridges and and oblong bottom stays coming from the hanger. This Simmons Autocycle was restored as found and is a great example of a teens motorbike.

This 1919 Simmons Autocycle has been Lux Low Patina Restored and Resuscitated. From the bikes badge the Model is # 1950 and through research I found this same bike offered earlier, but with 19 in the model number it is a educated assumption that the 19 denotes 1919. The Bike has Faint amounts of original paint under it’s aged Lux Low deep cleaned and sealed coat. The Bike has original parts as found: Tiller handlebars, Truss fork, Skiptooth Sprocket and Drive, Motor Bike Saddle, etc.. The Wheels came with the Bike and have been rebuilt and patina restored, the wheels have extra holes I suspect from John B Kid that owned the bike, They Still Look Great with the bike. The Bike is Totally Rebuilt and has nice innards, only the wheel set takes it’s out of the realm of a rider. We sell New 28″ Wheel Sets that can be purchased in addition to this bike if you are looking for a Cool Teens Bike to Roll Around on in Style.

This Amazing Bicycle is Rebuilt, Cleaned, and Sealed.  This Bicycle would Be Perfect For a Collection, Conversation or Decoration. Click here for Details of the Lux Low Vintage Patina Restoration Process on this Bike.
