Vintage 1938 Schwinn Paramount Fixed Gear Track Bicycle $8200

This Antique Schwinn Track Bike belonged to U.S.A. Olympic Racer Chester Nelson Jr. and was taken to the 1948 London Olympics, unfortunately it was a back up bike and was not raced. The 1948 US Olympic Cycling Team was coached by Chester Nelson Sr. (Father), who also raced in the 1928 Amsterdam, Netherlands Olympics for Team USA. The Bike is well used, loved, raced, and came out of a barn of an aging Chester Nelson Jr. about 20 years ago.

The Sterling was 19th century American fixed gear safety bike, made by Sterling Bicycle Co. aka “Sterling Cycle Works”. The Sterling has incredible craftsmanship and was known and sold as the Bicycle “Built like a watch”. Sterling Cycle Works manufactured bicycles from 1894 to 1898 at its factory in Chicago, Illinois. In 1899 Sterling move to Kenosha, Wisconsin and the company was sold later that year.

Antique Reading Standard Wood Wheel Bicycle made by Great Western Manufacturing Company of La Porte, Indiana around 1917. The Reading Standard started Manufacturing Bicycles in Reading Reading Pennsylvania at around 1906 to 1910, as the Bicycle industry suffered, companies were merged or bought to survive the hard times. Great Western Manufacturing Company acquired Reading Standard and was the second largest bicycle manufacturing company to survive the downturn, Second to Pope’s American Bicycle Company Trust (ABC). Great Western Manufacturing Company of La Porte, Indiana Produce some Amazing Bikes built with Quality.

In 1938 Schwinn introduced the Superior and Paramount line of Lightweight Track Racers and Touring Bikes. The Paramount was the top of the line and the Superior was considered second to top but still an elite bicycle offered at consumer prices. This 1940 Schwinn Superior is Classic Fixed Gear Track Bike with Nice Patina, Features Schwinn Superior light weight components, a fillet-brazed chrome-molybdenum frame ,Wood Racing Wheels, and Tubular Tires.

Vintage Columbia Archbar / Truss Bridge Bicycle made by Pope / Westfield Manufacturing. Columbia’s Description in 1921 was “The Columbia Archbar is another Westfield product made up to the same exacting requirements and quality standards that have made Columbia bicycles universally preferred and accepted as “Standard of the World”. Note the famous Columbia roadster type two-piece crank hanger and other important details of up-to-the minute equipment. The extra truss bar not only adds to the attractiveness of the mount, but gives additional strength where bending or fracture is likely to occur.”
