In 1938 Schwinn introduced the Superior and Paramount line of Lightweight Track Racers and Touring Bikes. The Paramount was the top of the line and the Superior was considered second to top but still an elite bicycle offered at consumer prices. Vintage 1899 Spalding Racer / Roadster Fixed Gear Track Bicycle is an amazing machine adored with all the innovations of the times. Albert Goodwill Spalding began his sporting career as a Baseball pitcher and later founded A. G. Spalding & Brothers a sporting goods company. During the late 1880s and 1890s, A.G. Spalding produced several different bicycle models and sponsored a racing team to help advertise its cycles. This 1899 Model 1322 Mens Racer Bicycle was Spalding’s top of the Line Track Racing Bicycle interred in to the 6 Day Races. This Antique Schwinn Track Bike belonged to U.S.A. Olympic Racer Chester Nelson Jr. and was taken to the 1948 London Olympics, unfortunately it was a back up bike and was not raced. The 1948 US Olympic Cycling Team was coached by Chester Nelson Sr. (Father), who also raced in the 1928 Amsterdam, Netherlands Olympics for Team USA. The Bike is well used, loved, raced, and came out of a barn of an aging Chester Nelson Jr. about 20 years ago.
