1953 J.C.Parkes ” Magpie ” Bike made by Parkes Lightweight Cycles – Century Works – Aston Brook Street – Birmingham 6. Parkes Lightweight Cycles were hand made and are quite rare. The founder James Parkes of James Parkes and Sons started producing bicycle frames and fittings in 1895. Parkes and Sons turned into ” The Sun Cycle Fitting Company ” Producing Bicycle and Motor Cycle Frames and Fittings. F.C. Parkes Grand son of James was responsible of the Development of Parkes Lightweight Bicycles. Eventually Sun Cycle Fittings was absorbed the the British Bicycle Giant ” Raleigh ” in the 1960s. This Magpie Bicycle is original as found and would be a great addition to a collection or a Retro Rider. 

 This 1953 J.C. Parks Magpie is Ready to go with Patina Intact, although it’s Not a Lux Low Patina Restore. The bike came from a Respected Collector / College who had the bike rebuilt at one time. The Bike measures 56cm from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the top tube. The bike has a Rare Benelux 3 Speed rear derailleur, Williams Cranks, Brampton Pedals, Bayliss Wiley Bottom Bracket , Brooks B-15 Leather Saddle, Dunlop Rims and 27″x 1 1/2″ tires, and Monitor Ventura Brakes. This Magpie is a Fine Example of a Early English Racer.
