Antique Flying Merkel Wood Wheel Bicycle made by the Miami Cycle and Manufacturing, Middletown, Ohio USA around 1912 to 1921. The Flying Merkel was Miami Cycle’s Second best Bicycle lines, Second to the the Top of the line Racycle Bicycles. The Flying Merkel line offered Bicycles and Motorcycles both Equally Rare. This Antique Bicycle is Patina restored as found and it’s Beauty Tells a story of it’s Time.
This Flying Merkel is a Nice Quality Early Antique bike showing Superior Craftsmanship that Miami Cycle built into Their bikes. The Bike is a 28″ x 1 1/2″ Wood wheel Roadster Bike with Tubular Tires. Ratty Restored Original Tubular Tires that hold Shape but not air.( A Lux Low Tire treatment) The Bike is an Interesting Old Bicycle, Restored as Found with Patina intact. The Wood Rims have been refinished, restored, and re laced with original spokes to original hubs. The rear hub is a Early Musselman Coaster Brake and Front Hour Glass Hub. The Chain is an early and rare for the Time Regular chain. Bike has Early Crank & Big 60 tooth Sprocket with an unique Bottom Bracket, Head set, Stem, and Mismatched Pedals (1 is a Miami Pedal ). The Badge / Emblem is a Accurate Recreation of the Original Stick on Emblem. The Wood Wheels and Original Patina is Pretty Nice and although completely rebuilt, I would say she is more of a show piece than 100 year old Rider.
