1953 Schwinn Wasp Ballooner Bicycle

11th March 1953 (No Comments)

This 1953 Schwinn Wasp Ballooner Bicycle was also Known as a Schwinn Model D12 and considered to be a Tough and Durable Bicycle in the Mid-Price Range.  The D-12, or Wasp, Was a Favorite and the Work Horse for PaperBoys.  This Wasp has an AS Springer fork, which is a Knee Action Springer Fork, and Aren’t Always on Schwinn Wasps.  The Springer Fork was Considered a Deluxe Option that Dealers could Order as a Upgrade from the Factory.

This Schwinn Wasp has nice Original Paint and Patina Parts.  The Color is Unique, and in My Experience, the First Time I’ve seen a Wasp in this Color.  All The Painted parts are Original and Native to this Bicycle and Came from the Factory this Way.  This is a Full Size Men’s Adult Ballooner Bike With The Big Cushy Fat New Schwinn Pattern 26″x 2.125″ Black Wall Tires and Original Rebuilt S-2 Wheels.  The Front Hub is a Schwinn Script and the Rear Coaster is a New Departure Model D Hub.  This Schwinn has the Original Big Ballooner Fenders, AS Crank, Phantom Chainring, Phantom AS Stem, Phantom Chainguard, AS Seatpost Clamp, Schwinn Script Seatpost, and Early Schwinn Grips.  The Vintage Messenger Seat is Comfortable Ride and Correct to Schwinn Bicycles, However, This Particular Seat is a Later Model Seat off of a Later Model Schwinn.
